Peter Thursfield Watch and Clockmaker

Peter Thursfield,  baptised  1810  Newcastle  under  Lyme  Staffordshire was  the son of  Thomas  &  Ann.  There  are  two  possibilities  for  his  parents. Thomas (feltmaker)  &  Ann   Broomer married  1806  Stoke on Trent  &  Thomas  &  Ann Merry  married  1807  Stoke  on  Trent.  See   below   for   more   details.


In  October  1837  Newcastle   under   Lyme   the   birth   is   registered   of   Thomas  Thursfield   son   of   Peter  of  7  Hassall  Street  &  Mary   formerly   Wood.


On  13 th   Sept  1840  in   Congleton   a   death   certificate   records   Enoch   age 8  yrs died   of   inflammation   of   the   brain,  son   of   Peter   Thursfield clockmaker.  John Wood   present   at   death.


On the  1841  census   Peter  Thursfield   age  30  clockmaker,  is   living   in   Penkull   Street,  Newcastle   under   Lyme,  with   wife   Mary  30,  both   born   in county.


In  1850  at  21  Court  3  House   Great   Russell   Street,  St   George   Birmingham   a  birth   certificate   records   the   birth   of   Fanny  Thursfield   daughter   of   Peter  (clockmaker) &  Mary   formerly   Wood.


The  1851  census   has   the   family   visiting   Joseph   Lapworth   at  138  Hampton   Street,  St.  George   Birmingham,  Peter   Thursfield   age  40  clockmaker   born   Newcastle   under   Lyme,  wife   Mary   age  40  born   Congleton,  children   all   born   Newcastle   under   Lyme   Thomas   age  12  Jeweller,  Ann  age  7,  Peter   age  5,  Fanny   age  1.  Also   John   Curtis   Hayes  18  clockmaker   born   Newcastle   under   Lyme.


There   was   a   death   record   in   June   quarter  1851  for   Thomas Thursfield in  Birmingham.

Peter  Thursfield   age  51  born   Newcastle,  clockmaker   employing   one   man   two  boys,  Mary   wife   age  50  born   Congleton,  Ann   daughter   age  18  silk   winder,  Peter   age  14  born   Newcastle   apprentice   to   watch   maker,  Frances E   age  11  born Birmingham,  Thomas   Enoch   age  7  Birmingham,  James   Corbyn  age  44  born  Wolverhampton,  watch jobber,  journey   man,  William   Smith  born   Marylebone  Middlesex   age  45  lodger,  tailor.


1871 census  Congleton.

Peter  Thursfield  age  61,  Mary   age 60,  married   daughter  A nn   Smith,  silk winder,  son  Thomas  E  Thursfield  age  17,  Mary  H Smith   granddaughter age 5  born  Congleton.

Peter Thursfield age  25  born Newcastle  under  Lyme, wife   Ruth   age  22  born Congleton,  daughter   Fanny   E   age  4  born  Congleton,  son  Alfred age 10  months  born Preston.


1881  census  Padiham.

Peter Thursfield   age  35,  Ruth  age  32,  Fanny Ellen  age  14  cotton   weaver,  Alfred  age  10,  Louisa age  8,  Martha  age  4,  Lilian  baby,  Mary   age  70  mother,  widow.

1901 census  Padiham.

 

Peter Thursfield  age  55  jeweller,  Ruth  age  52,  Fanny Ellen age  34  dressmaker,  Lillian   age  20,  Peter   age  19  jeweller's   apprentice,  Charles   ironmonger,  John   Hebden  age 24  son in law  chemist,  Martha  A  Hebden   age 24  daughter.


1911 census Padiham.

Charles  Thursfield   born  28th  August  1887  Padiham,  Lancashire,  chauffer   wife  Bridget  Christina   address  4420  N . California  A venue Chicago served in   the 1st World  War.

1823  approx.  Rosehannah  born  daughter  of  Thomas  &  Ann.

1846  registered   Stoke on Trent  the marriage  of Rosanna Thursfield  &  Robert Griffith.

As  for Thomas  Thursfield   &  Ann  Merry.  The   I.G.I.   gives  Ann Merry   baptised 1785  Keele,  daughter  of  Thomas  &  Sarah Merry.
